First Year Experience: Overview of the Industry

Our unique interdisciplinary first year course Global Fashion Insight gives you real-world experience from day one. In this course, you will learn all the major components throughout the business of fashion design concepts, product development, production and merchandising and retail management. First-hand experience is facilitated by a group project where you will produce a product to be sold in our student-run pop-up store, enabling you to understand the complete process, from design to consumer. The net proceeds from sales at the pop-up shop are donated to a charity selected by students in the course. This course provides you with insight into career options after graduation.

Unfaded

This high-impact project from Unfaded highlights consumer research, product design, product development, merchandising, sourcing, marketing and retailing. Based on the overall trend direction of the pop-up shop which was Y2K, Unfaded purchased denim jeans and repurposed the products into fashionable denim bags. The project aims to facilitate students' creativity, ability to execute their ideas and collaborative skills, which are essential traits in the global fashion industry. The project also encourages students to incorporate environmentally sustainable approaches throughout production. Most importantly, students extended their knowledge and had fun along the way, a core company value adopted from Qurate Retail Group (QVC). Finally, net sales from the pop-up shop were donated to charity.
