Research and Clinical Interests

Healthcare spending growth, long term health financing, managed care

Robert Lieberthal is a new faculty member in the Jefferson School of Population Health. He is joining the Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research group, and will be an instructor for the masters' programs in health policy and applied health economics.

Mr. Lieberthal's main research interest is the application of economic and actuarial analysis to population health issues. He has received grant funding including a T32 National Research Service Award grant and an R36 individual dissertation award from AHRQ. His research has appeared in peer reviewed journals including Health Services Research and Health Affairs. He has presented his work at meetings of the Society of Actuaries, AcademyHealth, and the Health Policy Statistics Section of the American Statistical Association.

He is currently a PhD candidate in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (expected 2011). He also holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Mathematics from Boston University and has completed extensive coursework as an actuarial student through the Society of Actuaries.
