Research and Clinical Interests

Ms. Chernett has had a diverse career in health care as a clinician, program developer, and project director. During the past 20 years she has worked exclusively with programs serving older elders and family caregivers. As Project Director in the Jefferson Center for Applied Research on Aging and Health (CARAH) Ms. Chernett has worked with primary investigators to develop and manage NIH funded studies in research infrastructure development, dementia family caregiving and for two National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) funded studies in which Jefferson is collaborating with an urban senior center in Philadelphia (Center in the Park) to develop, evaluate and implement evidence-based programs that support mental health and well-being of African American older adults, and provide field based cultural competency training opportunities for graduate health care students. She was a co-investigator for the U.S. Administration on Aging-funded program Harvest Health: Chronic Disease Self-Management Program for Older African Americans.
Ms. Chernett and her colleagues from the OT Department and the Jefferson School of Population Health have developed and implemented an interdisciplinary course entitled Cultural Humility and Competence in Health Professions and Population Health.
