Program Overview

The PhD in Population Health Sciences requires completion of 77-80 credits, including comprehensive examinations and dissertation. Fifty-nine (59) to 62 of these credits represent core courses and 18 represent specialization courses in health policy; health care quality and safety; chronic care management; applied health economics; and behavioral and health sciences.

A maximum of 30 applicable graduate credits may be transferred into the program from other accredited institutions of higher education or from other graduate programs of Thomas Jefferson University. The PhD in Population Health Sciences is not intended as an entry-level degree; preference will be given to applicants who have completed (or nearly completed) master’s level coursework in appropriate fields, i.e., public health, health policy, etc.

The program has two prerequisites:

• Graduate-level course in basic statistics or biostatistics
• Graduate level course in relevant research methods

Applicants will be required to submit GRE scores that are less than five years old.
