Our Mission
The Department of Health Policy is committed to conducting research and education programs that will
contribute to the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of health care.
The Department's activities are meant to inform decisions made by government

The Office of Health Policy was established in 1990 by the
leadership of Jefferson Medical College (JMC) and Thomas
Jefferson University Hospital (TJUH) as part of a long-term
strategy to prepare health care providers for the challenges
of a dynamic health care environment. Several
years later in January of 2003, the Office of Health Policy
was declared the Department of Health Policy. Since that
time, the Department has evolved into a nationally recognized
academic research, education, and consulting group, specializing
in outcomes and health services research and customized training
programs. We remain dedicated to measuring and improving
the quality of medical care and to fulfilling our mission
through our work with health systems, hospitals, physician
organizations, managed care organizations, the pharmaceutical
industry, and individual health care providers.
