Cardiac CT Course - Level I and Level II

Cardiac CT Course Description

Jefferson is a tertiary care center with an active cardiac program, including cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery and cardiac transplantation. Participants will observe and participate in the interpretation of outpatient and inpatient cardiac CT cases performed at our center as well as emergency room cases that are referred during the course.

Level I Participants:

Level I Participants will work together with a physician leader to evaluate 50 Cardiac CT angiograms that have been chosen from our database to demonstrate normal coronary anatomy and interesting forms of pathology. Each participant will have a workstation to use - with a maximum of two participants per workstation. After the reconstruction technique is demonstrated by the physician leader, participants will reconstruct cases on their own an evaluate coronary CT angiograms.

Objectives

To provide the participant with an initial experience in the interpretation of coronary CT angiography.
The major objectives are:

To provide an understanding of coronary anatomy and coronary artery disease
To provide a basic level of competence in the interpretation of coronary CT angiography.

Level II Participants:

Level II Participants will work together with a physician leader to evaluate 150 Cardiac CT angiograms, including 100 cases that have been chosen from our database, 25 live cases and 25 videotaped cases. Cases from the database are chosen to demonstrate normal coronary anatomy and interesting forms of pathology. Live cases will represent a mix of outpatient and emergency room studies (to include triple rule-out studies). Each participant will have a workstation to use - with a maximum of two participants per workstation. After the reconstruction technique is demonstrated by the physician leader, participants will reconstruct cases on their own an evaluate coronary CT angiograms. In addition to the case reconstructions, there will be a daily one-hour didactic lecture each day of the program. Lecture topics will include CTA technique, coronary anatomy, evaluation of coronary artery disease, stents and bypass grafts and cardiac function/valve assessment.

Objectives

To provide more extensive exposure to CTA evaluation of coronary anatomic variations and cardiovascular pathology.

The major objectives are:

To provide a complete understanding of coronary anatomy and variations.
To provide a general understanding of the pathogenesis and distribution of coronary artery disease.
To provide deficiency in using the Philips comprehensive cardiac package for evaluation of coronary arteries.
To provide a basic understanding of coronary stent and bypass graft evaluation.
To provide a basic understanding of cardiac function and CT evaluation.
To provide a basic understanding of aortic/mitral valve function and CT evaluation.

After that time, refunds are not possible, but payment may be applied toward a future course within one calendar year (less the $100 administrative fee). No telephone cancellations will be accepted. In the unlikely event that the course is cancelled, Thomas Jefferson University will refund the registration fee, but will not be responsible for hotel/travel costs that the attendee has incurred.
