Assistant Professor Tarun Podder, PhD to act as the Chairman of AAPM-TG192: Guidelines for Image-guided Robotic Brachytherapy
February 1, 2010
On September 21, 2009, a Task Group (TG) was approved by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) to formulate guidelines for image-guided robotic brachytherapy. Tarun K. Podder, Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology is acting as the chairman. Fifteen members of this Task Group were joined from 12 international universities and hospitals. Dr. Adam P. Dicker, Chairman of Radiation Oncology and Dr. Yan Yu, Director of Medical Physics, Radiation Oncology are two of the members of this TG192.
AAPM- Task Groups are formed for developing guidelines and recommendations for the clinical practice of the various aspects of medical physics related to Radiation Oncology as well as Radiology. The recommendations of Task Groups are very useful and sometimes very critical for patient care, safety, and regulatory compliances. Robotic systems for brachytherapy are now entering into clinical practice. Standardized guidelines are essential for preventing patient injuries and achieving quality during the introduction of these devices. The recommendations of this TG192 will be available around July 2011.
