Research and Clinical Interests
Research focuses on understanding mechanisms of interaction between radiation and biological agents in the context of the tumor hypoxic microenvironment. Since radiotherapy is one of the most widely used treatments for cancer, it is important to understand how best to use these modalities in order to aid in the design of rational patient protocols. Currently ongoing, are studies with: EGFR inhibitors, such as cetuximab and vanatinib; VEGFR inhibitors such as VEGF Trap and receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, sunitinib, sorafenib and AZD2171 in combination with radiotherapy and with and without chemotherapy in human isogenic models of glioblastoma implanted in nude mice.
