Research Topics
Image Guided Radiation Therapy
The emergence of IGRT has made a tremendous impact on the planning and delivery of radiation therapy. Current research is looking at the impact that IGRT has made on the field and ways to continue to utilize new technologies.
Monte Carlo
We are currently investigating the clinical implementation of this sophisticated algorithm and comparison to current clinical models.
IMRT
Intensity modulated radiation therapy made a significant impact on treatment planning and delivery techniques. In a constantly evolving field, a few topics we are investigating include IMRT delivery efficiency, quality assurance issues, and heterogeneity effects.
4D topics
With the capability to capture tumor motion during a planning CT, current interests include the most effective techniques for contouring and utilizing information from multiple phases.
Radioactive Microspheres
With the lack of treatment planning systems readily available, we are comparing different dose calculation models for prescribed activity.
Prostate Seed Implants
Current interests in low dose rate prostate brachytherapy include volumetric analysis using multiple imaging modalities, the implementation of robotic seed placement, and non-template dosimetry.
Breast Brachytherapy
Mammosite breast brachytherapy has become a popular treatment modality, appealing to many patients. Our group is investigating other high dose rate partial breast applicators in addition to evaluating skin dose, daily quality assurance techniques, and dose verification.
Other current research topics: Patient Immobilization, Adaptive Radiotherapy, Clinical Dosimetry, Clinical Trials Informatics, Image Assessment of Therapy Response
