The Department of Radiation Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University offers a wide variety of treatment options for breast cancer patients. Physicians have at their disposal the latest technologies to deliver external beam radiation therapy as well as intracavitary brachytherapy. Our resources include whole breast 3D planning, forward planning, prone breast treatments, IMRT treatment planning, and partial breast irradiation. We also offer accelerated partial breast irradiation for a five day treatment course with the Mammosite applicator for patients that meet specific criteria. We offer a 3-4 week course of whole breast radiation for appropriate patients. Accessory devices such as the Active Breathing Coordinator can be used in some cases to reduce dose to unwanted tissues. Our department has a well established brachytherapy program with a variety of APBI applicators.
