Educational Activities

The Division of Biostatistics is involved in various educational activities, both at Jefferson and in partnership with other institutions.

At Jefferson, Dr. Daskalakis teaches "Fundamentals of Clinical Trials" (GC630), a 3-credit graduate course offered to fellows and graduate students. In addition, Drs. Daskalakis and Leiby are developing a two-course sequence on "Statistical Inference in Research" and "Introductory Statistics for the Basic Sciences", to be offered to graduate students in the basic science programs. All members of the Division often give talks to various Jefferson audiences, such as in departmental seminars for fellows and students.

Members of the Division also participate in educational activities of the NIH-funded K30 Training Program in Human Investigation, offered through the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. These activities include seminars, journal clubs, ethics conferences, mentoring, and students' Master's thesis committees. Members of the Division also participate in medical student education, including the Scientific Foundations of Clinical Medicine.

In addition to these educational activities involving Jefferson fellows and students, members of the Division of Biostatistics have been recently building training collaborations with Temple's graduate program in Statistics and with Drexel's graduate program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Drs. Hyslop, Chervoneva, and Dasgupta have supervised students from these programs in summer internships, and have worked with them on their thesis and dissertation research. Finally, Dr. Daskalakis has mentored undergraduate students from Cheyney University during summer internships at Jefferson.
