Research and Clinical Interests
Gene Gulati, PhD SH (ASCP), a nationally-renowned clinical laboratory hematologist with expertise in blood cells morphology, serves as the Director of Hematology Section. Dr. Gulati is the author of two popular hematology books, "Blood Cells, An Atlas of Morphology with Clinical Relevance" and "Blood Cells Morphology Grading Guide", both published by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Press (ASCP Press). Under his guidance and supervision, the clinical hematology laboratory offers diagnostic services for hematologic, bleeding and clotting disorders. Medical students, residents, fellows, and the laboratory staff benefit from his many years of teaching experience. He is available to the clinicians for consultation on diagnostic work-up of hematologic disorders and blood smear reviews in particular. The section is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and staffed by qualified laboratory professionals 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
