Expertise and Research Interests
Dr. Rothman is the founder of the Rothman Institute and the James Edwards Professor of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. He is an orthopaedic pioneer, with an international reputation in joint replacement procedures. For more than a quarter of a century, Dr. Richard H. Rothman has worked towards realizing his vision of an institute dedicated to the treatment of skeletal diseases and characterized by quality, compassion and affordability. Although his personal interest is reconstructive surgery of the knee and hip, he has been able to attract an extraordinarily talented group of surgeons dedicated to all aspects of orthopaedic surgery. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he received his surgical training and doctorate in anatomy at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. Recognized in several national publications as one of the premiere orthopaedic surgeons in the country, he has published 13 textbooks, over 200 original research papers and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Arthroplasty. Having dedicated his professional career to research, teaching and surgery, he envisions the future of orthopaedic surgery in the Delaware Valley being fulfilled and led by his brilliant younger colleagues.
