Life in Medicine Series: Residents meet monthly at the home of a faculty member for dinner and discussion on a variety of topics that impact physicians' lives.
An integral part of the residency is the Thursday Morning conference program. The goal of this program is to provide a didactic curriculum pertinent to family medicine. The major objectives of this curriculum are:
- To focus on clinical issues, including the development, presentation and management of problems, both in and out of the hospital.
- To emphasize the psychosocial and socioeconomic factors which impact on the health and well being of the individual and family.
Typical Thursday: 9:00 – 12:00 noon Family Medicine Resident Conference presentation by either a resident, a faculty member from the department or a guest speaker.
A recent survey of residency graduates indicated that formal Grand Rounds conferences, presented by residents, have long-lasting value for the presenter and are highly rated by fellow residents and faculty. This technique encourages every resident to develop their own area of expertise.
