Orientation Programs

Student Orientation Leaders assist in welcoming our new students to Jefferson.

The Office of Student Life is responsible for coordinating the orientation of incoming students.  Completion of the Orientation program is mandatory; students are expected to stay for the entire duration of the in-person orientation program.  Once a student has been accepted into Jefferson, the Admissions Office sends notification to our office.  Students are sent information regarding their scheduled Orientation approximately four to six weeks prior to the program date, or as soon as they are accepted if that date is less than four weeks prior to Orientation.  The Orientation packet will be emailed to the Jefferson email and primary alternate email on file with the Admissions Office - if that information is incorrect, please contact our office. Please note that this is a separate information packet from the acceptance packet sent to you from the Office of Admissions. You may also receive a packet from your academic area.

The Orientation program is designed specifically for students. We are not able to accommodate parents and guests. Students must submit an online RSVP to the Orientation program. Please wait to submit your RSVP until you have received your Orientation packet and reviewed all of the materials within.

General information on the scheduled Orientations may also be found below.

The Orientation program consists of the following elements:

  • Advising and Registration for classes and Training on the University's Technology (for students who have not already completed this online)
  • Academic Department/Program Information Session
  • Taking picture for Photo ID
  • Campus Safety and Security
  • University Services Presentation
  • Overview of Jefferson
  • Purchasing of Uniforms and required supplies
  • Getting to Know Your Fellow Jefferson Students Session
  • Jefferson Policies and Honor Code
  • Meeting with Jefferson representatives from Academic Support Services, Activities Office, Bookstore, Career Development Center, Commuter Services, Financial Aid, Library Services, Nutrition and Dietetics, Office of Student Life, Student Personal Counseling Center, Tuition Office, University Health Services, and the Wellness Center. Also, representatives will be available to answer your questions about the school-sponsored health insurance and dental plans.

Welcome Day

The presentations given at Welcome Day will build upon the knowledge you have already gained through attending your Orientation program. This second component to your overall orientation to Thomas Jefferson University is designed to provide you with the means for a successful start to your educational endeavors.

Welcome Day takes place the day before the start of the fall semester. For students in the Jefferson School of Pharmacy, the date for Welcome Day is Tuesday, August 28, 2012. For students in the Jefferson School of Health Professions and the Jefferson School of Nursing, the date for Welcome Day is Tuesday, September 4, 2012. This program is coordinated through the individual academic areas. Participation in Welcome Day is a required component to starting your education at Jefferson. All incoming students should plan on being in attendance. Please note that not all academic areas host a Welcome Day program for their students, so you should check with your academic department or school to see if they will be having a Welcome Day program.
