With primary responsibility for the basic science component of the PharmD curriculum, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will contribute to the mission of the School and the University by providing teaching and research expertise in the following thematic areas:
A. Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Analysis, with emphasis on the design and synthesis of drug candidates and the development and implementation of technologies to predict biological function from compound structure and to identify and quantify synthetic and biological molecules.
B. Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, especially the development of principles and technologies to advance drug formulation, dosage stability, targeted delivery, and biological lifetime prediction and control.
C. Pharmacology and Pharmacogenomics, encompassing the elucidation of molecular and systemic drug mechanisms, analysis of drug metabolic products and pathways, characterization of novel disease targets, and development of biomolecular indicators for therapeutic monitoring.
Candidates should have an earned PhD or equivalent degree with specialization in a relevant pharmaceutical or biomedical field such as medicinal or organic chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, microbiology, immunology, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, physiology, genomics, nanotechnology, neuroscience, and molecular or quantitative biology.
