Notification of Faculty Accomplishments
Summer – Fall 2001

The Nursing Department at the College of Health Professions, Thomas Jefferson University would like to welcome Cathy Clark and Agnes Morrison as new faculty members.

The Nursing Department’s faculty at the College of Health Professions, Thomas Jefferson University has been busy over the summer and fall of 2001. Some of the accomplishments include:

Mary Schaal and Molly Rose traveled to South Africa over the summer as
members of an assessment team to set up programs at multiple sites to prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to infant.

Mary Schaal presented the goals and accomplishments of the South Africa trip at TJU Nursing Department’s Convocation in September.

Anne Belcher was appointed to the Nursing Department Advisory Committee at the Community College of Philadelphia for 2001 to 2003.

Anne Belcher presented “Oncology Nursing: Love at First Sight and Forever” at the Oncology Nursing Conference, Coeurd’Alene in Idaho in September 2001.

Anne Belcher presented “Humor in Nursing” to pediatric staff meetings at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in October and November 2001.

Anne Belcher presented “The Future of Oncology Nursing- Will We be Ready” to the Oncology Nursing Conference in Birmingham Alabama in October 2001.

Molly A. Rose in collaboration with Christine Arenson M.D. received a grant funded by Senior Health Institute, TJU for "Chronic disease self-management in Philadelphia subsidized senior housing: A social service/health independence promotion outcomes evaluation".

Molly Rose attended training in "Chronic Disease Self-management Train the Trainers Program" at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, in August 2001.

Angelina Arcamone presented a poster entitled “Concept Analysis of Cooperative Learning: Application to Nursing Education” at the National League for Nursing Education Summit 2000, Nashville TN.

Ruthann Johnson has been appointed to Governor Whitman’s AIDS Advisory Board as of December 2000.

Mary Schaal and Molly Rose had a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Community Health Nursing entitled “Global connections in a changing world: Romanian and U.S. nurses unite.”

Mary Bouchaud, and Molly Rose presented a paper at the American Public Health Association Conference in Boston in November, 2000 on “Public health nursing faculty collaborates with local urban senior center, community special interest groups, and community resources for senior health promotion efforts”

Mary Bouchaud had a paper accepted for publication: “Tackling the Home Care Nursing Shortage” Nursing Spectrum, Volume 9, #23, November 13, 2000, pages 12-13.

Karen Papastrat and Sharon Wallace presented a paper “Problem-Based Learning and Failure Mode Analysis” at the Pennsylvania League for Nurses Annual Conference March 2001.

Mary Bowen passed the American Nurses Credentialing Center examination for Family Nurse Practitioner and presented a paper in New Orleans on “Interactive model of distance education for public health policy” at the American Association of Schools of Public Health conference in August 2000. Mary was also appointed to the Editorial Board for the Journal of Nursing Risk Management in June 2000.

Molly Rose presented a paper “Creation of a Web-based Graduate Nursing Curriculum”, at the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning, Florida. April 2001

Margaret Griffiths had a paper published (2001) “Attitudes Toward Physician-Nurse Collaboration: A cross-cultural Study of Male and Female Physicians and Nurses in the United States and Mexico”, Nursing Research Volume 50, Number 2 page 123-128.

Agnes Morrison presented “Nursing as a Career Option” to high school students from Western Center for Technical Studies on November 16, 2001.

Mary Bowen wrote a chapter on Cardiac Dysrhythmia, which was, published (2001) in Arcangelo, V., Peterson, A. Eds.). Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice: A practical approach.

Mary Bowen presented “Managed Care: Implications for Curriculum Development” at the Educational Summit, National League of Nursing Conference, in Baltimore, Maryland in September 2001.

Mary Bowen presented a paper “Research in Health Care and Health Policy: A Web Based Interactive Distance Education Course” for the American Schools of Public Health and Distance Education Conference, in Columbus, Ohio in August 2001.

Angelina Arcamone presented a paper at the National League of Nursing Education Summit in Baltimore, Maryland on September 21, 2001 entitled, "Preparing for NCLEX-RN: How Helpful are Cooperative Learning Groups?

Angelina Arcamone receive the Excellence in Teaching Award in May 2001 from the RN-BSN Class of 2001 of Thomas Jefferson University, Department of Nursing.

Joe DeRanieri , Maryellen. Santucci and Peggy Griffiths presented "A Capstone course to Facilitate Socialization for the Registered Nurse Student" at the NLN Educational Summit, September 20, 2001.
