Honorary Degree Recipient - Leslie Anne Miller

Leslie Anne Miller, Esq., a consummate professional in the field of law, has been recognized locally and across the state of Pennsylvania for her leadership in service to the community. Currently a partner and shareholder in the law firm of McKissock and Hoffman, P.C., Ms. Miller has had a multi-faceted career as a civil litigator and mediator that has spanned a quarter of a century. In all of her endeavors, Ms. Miller exudes power and influence and exhibits professional creativity and innovation.
Known as an advocate for programs that advance women, she is also a proponent for work that fosters diversity in both the legal profession and across the business community. Respected for her dedication and accomplishment in developing the Kimmel Regional Performing Arts Center, Ms. Miller is currently co-chair of the Center's board of directors. She took a leadership role in overseeing final preparations for the Center's December 2001 opening and completing the $265 million Campaign to Build the Kimmel Center. She also serves as a board member of numerous leading cultural and not-for-profit organizations, including the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet, the Forum of Executive Women, Pennsylvania Legal Services Corporation and WHYY. Throughout her long-standing involvement in corporate governance, Ms. Miller has remained a committed, dependable and thoughtful board member who has a unique understanding of the fiduciary and ethical responsibilities inherent in these important positions.

Ms. Miller's dedication to volunteerism goes beyond the pro bono publico of the legal profession. She has always been cognizant that bringing her broad-based business and legal acumen to an organization will affect it positively and bring about change and lasting improvement. She demonstrated this while serving as the first female president of the 27,000-member Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) in 1998-99. For that organization, she also chaired the Association's first Commission on Women in the Profession and served as chair of PBA's House of Delegates and Young Lawyers Division.

Ms. Miller has received numerous honors throughout her career. Most recently, she was named one of the five area "Women Making History" by the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and awarded a "Woman of Distinction" honor by the Philadelphia Business Journal. An alumnae trustee of the Dickinson School of Law, Ms. Miller was presented with the Alumnae Medal of Honor from her alma mater, Mount Holyoke College. Other honors include the President's Award from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession's Ann X. Alpern Award, the Philadelphia Bar Association's Sandra Day O'Connor Award and recognition as a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania by Governor Thomas Ridge.

Ms. Miller earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College, a master's in arts in political science from the Eagleton Institute of Politics of Rutgers University, her law degree (JD) from the Dickinson School of Law and master's in law (LLM with honors) from Temple University's Beasley School of Law. She is a member of the board of trustees of both Mount Holyoke and Dickinson School of Law.

Leslie Anne Miller is married to investment advisor Richard B. Worley. They reside in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
