Radiography Director Graduates from Leadership Academy
Philadelphia, PA, February 2002 - Frances Gilman, MS, RT(R)(CT)(MR)(CV),
recently graduated from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists
(ASRT) Leadership Academy, an innovative educational program that trains
radiologic technologists in skills to lead nonprofit organizations. Ms.
Gilman, of West Chester, Pa., is radiography program director and an instructor
at Thomas Jefferson University's College of Health Professions.
Twenty-nine radiologic technologists from 20 states participated in this
year's Leadership Academy, held January 23-26 in Albuquerque, NM, and
sponsored by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. The ASRT
represents more than 93,000 medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals
nationwide. Participants learned basic leadership skills, including negotiation,
decision-making, consensus building and conflict resolution. They also
learned about fund raising, parliamentary procedure, association management
and the responsibilities of serving on the board of directors of a nonprofit
organization.
Ms. Gilman said she came to the academy to learn to better promote the
profession and the ASRT to her students, her peers and the public. She
is looking forward to "exchanging ideas with my cohorts, gathering
input about their current challenges and creating new solutions as a group."
