Jefferson School of Pharmacy Students Named to the
Greater Philadelphia Schweitzer Fellows Program
PHILADELPHIA, PA – April 21, 2010 – Second-year Jefferson School of Pharmacy students Kenny Aristide and Stephanie Do were recently named to the prestigious Greater Philadelphia Schweitzer Fellows Program (GPSFP.) The one-year interdisciplinary fellowship program challenges students to act on their idealism by serving needy individuals and communities. GPSFP focuses on community service, leadership development and refection, and serves as the entry in becoming a "Fellow for Life." Aristide and Do received a stipend of $2,000 for their participation in the program.
"Congratulations to Kenny and Stephanie on their achievement. The faculty, staff and students of the Jefferson School of Pharmacy applaud their dedication to service to underserved individuals within the greater Philadelphia community. We all look forward to seeing the impact of their year-long project" said Rebecca Finley, PharmD, MS, FASHP, dean, Jefferson School of Pharmacy.
For their project, Aristide and Do will implement and monitor a health promotion and educational program that serves to assist residents of an area shelter to manage their cardiovascular-related diseases. At monthly meetings, Do and Aristide will have the opportunity to network with professionals in service professions, participate in interdisciplinary discussions, and reflect on community service. Aristide and Do will share their fellowship experience with other Jefferson students in an effort to increase student participation in the program.
The Greater Philadelphia Schweitzer Fellows Program is one of 11 such programs in the nation based on Albert Schweitzer’s philosophy of reverence for life. Under the leadership of David B. Nash, MD, MBA, and colleagues at the Jefferson School of Population Health of Thomas Jefferson University, the GPSFP serves populations in Delaware, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Southern New Jersey.
