JSP Students Invited to Participate in
Government Relations Advocacy for Student Pharmacists Program
PHILADELPHIA, PA – April 21, 2010 – The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association (PPA) selected four Jefferson School of Pharmacy students – Carla Eisenstein, Hassan Hammoud, Jamie Lopez-Quigley and Hoang-Ai Tang – to participate in the annual Government Relations Advocacy for Student Pharmacists (GRASP) program. The GRASP program, a three-day legislative conference that focuses on government relations, legislative action, media training and the regulatory process, took place February 19-21 in the PPA Office in Harrisburg, PA.
"GRASP is an amazing didactic and experiential education program where students learn about the legislative process in relation to pharmacy practice," said Hammoud about his experience. "The skills and lessons learned here are incredibly valuable. I highly recommend this program to student pharmacists from across the state," he continued.
Twenty-three students from the seven pharmacy schools in Pennsylvania attended the conference, held directly across the street from the state capitol. Guest speakers from a variety of practice settings, including Ed Bechtel, R.Ph., representing the State Board of Pharmacy; Colleen Kayden, R.Ph., Consultant Pharmacist of Medication Information Services; and Pat Epple, CAE, Executive Director of PPA; addressed the student pharmacists, introducing them to the legislative side of pharmacy.
