JSN Students’ PDA Use Highlighted
Prelicensure nursing students’ use of PDAs at Thomas Jefferson University’s School of Nursing is the focus of a Case Study in EDTECH: Focus on Higher Education.
Jefferson started to introduce PDAs into the classroom in 2005, and two years later they became required for BSN students. In 2008 ASN students were also required to use them.
Karen Papastrat, RN, MSN, Assistant Dean of Prelicensure BSN Programs at Thomas Jefferson University’s School of Nursing, says that use of PDAs is “helpful because students have such point-of-care access to information.” They use the devices for mediation and diagnostic test reference, to conduct MEDLINE searches, to access clinical based evidence, plan patient care, and for patient education.
