Molecular Biology Specialist Track
Molecular Biology Specialist Track
Total Credits: 27
Research laboratories need individuals who have current molecular technology
skills to work in specialized sections of research facilities. This Post-Baccalaureate
Track is designed for individuals who have completed a Bachelors Degree
that included at least 30 semester credits of biology and chemistry courses.
Research Technicians and Junior Scientists who want to earn new or additional
certification for job advancement or job mobility are eligible for entry
into this Specialist Track.
Individuals who complete the Molecular Biology Specialist Track are eligible
for certification in molecular biology. Once certified, individuals may
use the CLSp(MB) designation with their names.
The Specialist Track is conducted under the auspices of our fully approved
program in Biotechnology. The Specialist Track is offered in accelerated
(3 semesters) or extended (5 semesters) course sequences that are sensitive
to people's busy schedules. A full-time option is also available. Most
students should be able to complete the Track within one year.
Molecular biological techniques have broad applications for identifying
genetic diseases and infectious agents, or determining paternity. Molecular
biologists use a variety of techniques such as DNA/RNA extractions, Southern
blot, Western blot, PCR and gene sequencing. These methods are being used
more and more in clinical laboratories, in diagnostic genetics laboratories,
in research laboratories and in forensic investigations.
What Do You Need to Apply?
- Bachelors Degree from an Accredited College/University with at least
30 semester hours of biology and/or chemistry courses
- Completed application form and official transcripts
- If foreign student, an evaluation of foreign transcripts by the World Education Service (WES) is required.
