Center for Faculty Development Programs

The following programs are available to all University faculty. Advanced registration is typically required.

Faculty Development Day
Annual daylong event that addresses teaching/learning related topics, including curricular design and evaluation, and student outcomes assessment. Usually takes place at the end of the spring semester.

Faculty Research Day
Annual daylong event devoted to aspects of research planning, funding, methodology and implementation. Provides opportunities for faculty to share research through poster presentations. Usually takes place during mid-semester break.

Forums, Seminars, Workshops
Series of presentations, including "Brown Bag Lunches," related to the teaching/learning process. A wide range of topics addressing issues identified of interest by faculty, e.g., active learning strategies; constructing exams and tests; integrating skills and content; critical thinking; teaching portfolios; managing content; assessing student outcomes; designing and evaluating curricula; web-based teaching; creating on-line courses, etc. Usually offered Mondays during College free time.

New Faculty Orientation
Three-day event that introduces faculty to new roles as teacher, scholar, advisor, mentor and member of the Jefferson community. Presents current trends in teaching and learning, faculty roles and responsibilities, demographic profile of CHP students, survey of CHP academic programs, analysis of individual teaching and learning styles, teaching methodologies ("best practices"), research expectations and opportunities, and integration of technology into teaching and research. Takes place last week of August.
