Shirley E. Greening, CFIAC, MS, JD is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Bioscience Technologies, Jefferson School of Health Professions, and Program Director for the Cytotechnology Program. Dr. Greening has published on a variety of topics, ranging from diagnostic cytology to educational, regulatory and medico-legal issues affecting cytology practice and practitioners. A past President of the American Society for Cytotechnology and former Chairman of the Cytotechnology Advisory Committee of the American Society of Cytology, she has represented cytotechnologists at Congressional hearings and in media broadcasts about cytology; she is currently an Assistant Editor for Acta Cytologica. Dr. Greening is the recipient of the Cytotechnologist of the Year Award from the American Society of Cytopathology (1993), the Cytotechnologist Achievement Award of the American Society for Cytotechnology (1995), and the International Cytotechnology Award in Clinical Cytology from the International Academy of Cytology (1997). Dr. Greening received her Cytotechnology training at the University of Rochester, her Masters degree from the University of Miami, and her law degree from Temple University School of Law. Prior to coming to Jefferson in 1983, she held a variety of clinical, research and education positions, including Program Director of Cytotechnology, Research Associate and Chief Cytotechnologist and Supervisor of the Cytopathology Laboratory at the University of Miami, School of Medicine.
