Slide Show – Fifth Annual Postdoctoral Research Symposium
Tuesday, June 15, 2010
The Jefferson Postdoctoral Association and the Jefferson College of Graduate Studies (JCGS) Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will host the 5th Annual Jefferson Postdoctoral Symposium (PRS) on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. The oral presentations will be held in Rooms 105 and 107 of the Bluemle Life Sciences Building (233 S 10th Street, Philadelphia PA 19107), the keynote address will be in the Connelly Auditorium in the Hamilton Building (1001 Locust Street) and the poster presentations and career and vendor fair will be in the Hamilton lobby. The PRS will display the multiplicity of research done by Jefferson postdocs.
The Symposium Agenda is available online.
Selected abstracts will be delivered as oral presentations. All other abstracts will be presented as posters. The schedule for presentations is available online. This year’s Symposium will debut a new poster session category entitled “Early Discoveries.” The “Early Discoveries” session is for postdocs who have been at Jefferson for less than one year or have started a new project in the past year. This category will be judged separately. Prizes will be given for the best oral and poster presentations in all sessions.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Keith Yamamoto, will address the scientific community at 12:00 PM in the Connelly Auditorium in the Hamilton Building. Dr. Yamamoto is Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology and Executive Vice Dean of the School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. The central focus of his research is the intracellular receptor (IR) superfamily of regulators, metazoan factors that include receptors for steroid and thyroid hormones in mammals. He was also the postdoc mentor for Dr. Leonard Freedman, Jefferson’s Vice Dean for Research. The Distinguished Mentor Award will be presented after the keynote address.
A career and vendor fair will provide opportunities to interact with representatives from regional employers, laboratory product companies, and financial institutions.
A list of sponsors is available. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please contact Lisa Kozlowski.
An additional afternoon plenary session has been added this year. The session, “Clinical Research at Jefferson”, will discuss how to take your research to the clinical level or how to get involved in clinical research yourself.
All are invited to view posters, attend the talks, and meet the postdoc presenters and company representatives throughout the day. There will be an award ceremony and reception following the plenary session.
