ESL (English as a Second Language) Classes at Jefferson
Jeff-at-Night now offers a Certificate of Proficiency in English as a Second Language (ESL).
Classes are offered in the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels in speaking/listening and reading/writing. Eligible Jefferson employees can use their tuition benefit to take these classes. Please note that you must remain at Jefferson for one year after the end of your class(es) or else you will be billed for the amount of any classes taken less than a year before you leave. Forms are available in Human Resources, 833 Chestnut Street, First Floor, or in the Department of General Studies office at 1610 Edison. Please read the Tuition Assistance Form information very carefully.
A test is required to determine placement at the appropriate class level. The placement test, which takes approximately two hours to complete, evaluates speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The test is free and taking it does not obligate you to take any ESL courses. The dates of the ESL Placement tests for Spring 2012 ESL courses are:
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 5:00 pm in Room M23 JAH
Monday, December 19, 2011 at 12 noon in Room M23 JAH
Registration is not required. Just come to M23 JAH on the day and time you wish to take the test.
Space permitting, spouses of Jefferson employees may also enroll in an ESL class, on a non-credit basis, for a fee of $500 – a great way to reinforce learning as a couple. A spouse must also take the Placement test before they can take the course.
